Casco Cove, Alaska - Cold Bay, Alaska -

The weather broke during the night. The rain stopped, the overcast broke up a little, and the winds died down. All perfect ingredients for us to get going on our way before dawn.

The first hop today is to Cold Bay, Alaska. After we get there, we'll figure out where to go next. We also cross the International Date Line today, when it will go from being today to yesterday... or is that tomorrow to today?

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day in the US, and I'm hoping to get to Portland, Oregon in time to have dinner with some friends of mine.

The landing at Cold Harbor was interesting. There was a pretty stiff cross breeze, but I managed to find the big runway with the help of the ILS. We refueled real quick, to be able to get right back out on our way to Anchorage, now only about 550 NM away. We will probably get there after dark, but that's ok for now. There just aren't enough daylight hours this far north.

We left Cold Harbor just as quickly as we arrived and turned to the northeast. We were greeted by a rising moon, something we haven't seen in about a week or so. There should be about 90 minutes of sunlight left. It will have been dark about an hour by the time we land at Anchorage.

It's a spectacular sunset as we continue east. It's dark out, but the quarter moon reflects well off the overcast below us. There is heavier traffic than usual in Alaska, as everyone seems to be flying for the holiday. We descend down towards Anchorage, and are vectored near Stevens airport, before being cleared onto runway 6 at Mitchell in Anchorage. The landing is smooth, and we tie down for the night, even though it isn't really that late.

We decide on getting a very early jump on tomorrow's travel. I'd like to be in Hillsboro, Oregon for lunch, then down in Redding, CA for dinner.
