Day 21
Tuesday, 13 November, 2001
We were sleeping in the plane, so it was easy to be ready to go at sunrise. Being it was a short flight, we only filled up half-way. No sense in flying more heavily than we need to.
We are cleared quickly, and are on our way to Wagga Wagga. The flight is again uneventful, and there really isn't much to see. Of course, nothing can go too simply, so as we radio Wagga Wagga, they tell us the airport is closed because of a fire. It's not a big one, but we can see the brush burning as we circle around. We've got enough fuel to hang around, so we decide to continue circling. We circle for over an hour before the local fire department can get the blaze under control. Finally, we are cleared to land. It's a good thing, too, because we are getting low on fuel.
Kailey wasn't able to meet us at the airport until a little later. They weren't letting people in until after the fire trucks left, so we were able to tie down. I wish they would have let us fuel up, but I guess they didn't want the gas flowing so soon after a fire.
Now it's time to go and party, and spend a day relaxing.
