Bangkok, Thailand - Kuala Lampur, Malaysia

Bangkok is one of those cities you have to actually visit to believe. There is a great mix of new architecture and an ancient feel. Kuala Lampur is a much more modern place, featuring the tallest building in the world, the Petronas Towers. We'll be landing at a strip only a few miles from downtown. This isn't the longest leg we will have flown, but it still seems like an eternity. We've decided to add a few days to the journey and continue south to the west coast of Australia, then down and across the southern coast, and back north up the east coast. Then up over New Guinea and the Phillipines to Taiwan and then to Japan.

We knew about 45 minutes out we were close to Kuala Lampur, as the sunlight glistened off the tops of the towers. They continued to grow as we came closer and closer to the city. It was a crystal clear day. We could see the heavy jets flying in and out of the main airport a few miles away. We were vectored out of their way, and made our landing just under 4 hours after leaving Bangkok. We'll get some more pictures tonight. The first thing I want to do is see if we can go to the top of the towers.

After spending the rest of the day here, we will fly south towards the western shores of Australia.

My thanks to those who you who have written to me to let me know you are enjoying the trip as much as I am. Good luck to those of you doing your own trips. I hope you can have as much fun as I have had.
