Reader Services

For the blind and handicapped

The Morris County Library is a designated Service Center for the
New Jersey State Library for the Blind and Handicapped.
You can make an appointment to use our Kurzweil Leading Edge reader or Optelec enlarger, borrow audio materials, large print materials and braille items and talking books. We also have a Perkins Brailler.

You can use the State Library's services by applying at your local library, at the Morris County Library or simply print out and mail in the
State Library's application.
You will need to have your personal physician certify that you are eligible for this service.

Audio materials
We have a large collection of audiobooks. They can be found by using Power Search in the online library catalog. Limit format to Music recordings, audiobooks and scores. You can also send e-mail to our Media desk for assistance. We also have 350 talking book titles, from the State Library. You may charge these out for a three month loan. New talking books come in every six months. If you have a defective book reader you can exchange it here at the library. Call 973-285-6950 extension 208 or drop us a note to arrange the temporary loan of a working machine.
Large print
Drop us a note if you would like our 21 page list of large print titles. We also loan large print issues of the Reader's Digest. Our titles are available to patrons who live in other counties through interlibrary loan. If you have a particular title you want to read, ask us.
Braille
Contact the State Library for a catalog of their braille titles.
Books are grouped by age level. Both the Morris County Library and the State Library can also help you find braille reading classes and other instructional material. Just ask!
