Historic prices: Morris County, NJ
FAQs about conducting historic price surveysThe prices listed in this survey were published in the [Morristown, New Jersey] Daily Record newspaper, the first fifteen days of October of each decade from 1900-2000. In order to facilitate historic price comparisons, we selected staple items in nine popular consumer categories: automobiles, clothing, employment & services, food & beverages, furniture, household & seasonal goods, newspaper, personal care & health, real estate, recreation & amusements.
Whenever possible, we selected items/brands (Hershey's cocoa, Bayer aspirin, Sears Kenmore refrigerator) that are still being manufactured. This makes it possible to take a 1920 "shopping list" to your local supermarket or department store and compare prices.
