Hello folks! I am Michael Mejido, your friend, and inventor of Michael Mejido's "Get the Word Out!"
MLS Advertising Campaign.
Now you might ask, "Michael, just what is Michael Mejido's "Get the Word Out!" MLS Advertising Campaign? Well, i'll tell you. It was my INGENIOUS new way to help advertise Major League Soccer to the masses.
You see, people like the internet. It is quite an enjoyable thing. So many happy things to view on the internet. So many good things. So many terrific things! I, Michael Mejido, frequent it from time to time. I said to myself, "Wow, if the MLS could somehow win over the population of the internet, they would fill up those stadiums, sell that merchandise, and be the biggest most spectacular sports league in the whole wide world!" I was amazed. How could no one have seen this sooner? All those people, on the net, just sitting there, wanting to be won over... WAITING to be won over. All I needed was an advertising scheme... an advertising scheme the likes of which no one has ever seen before, nor will ever seen again!
And so I made it my duty to devise such a scheme.
The gameplan was simple...
1) Create a kick-ass set of internet advertisements to place on internet sites
2) Map out sites to place said ads on
3) E-mail webmasters and ask them to put ads on site
4) Reap the benefits of my own overwhelming genious
It was a plan, delicately crafted, skillfully excecuted, painstakingly managed, beautifully constructed. But, sadly, like with most other works of genious, Michael Mejido's "Get the Word Out!" MLS Advertising Campaign was way ahead of its time. Things didn't exactly work out as hoped.
Of course, it wasn't a total loss. I did get to talk to some very nice people about Major League Soccer, and maybe my shining representation helped to turn a few new fans on to the league! Then again, maybe not. Alright, Michael Mejido's "Get the Word Out!" MLS Advertising Campaign was a total disaster from start to finish. Of the over 100 sites that I asked about displaying ads, absolutely none agreed. Hell, none of them even wrote me back the first time around. I don't know... maybe I could have picked different sites to ask, but dammit I'm no marketing wiz! I don't know about crap like that! I was driven by the LOVE, man... by the LOVE. Well the love amounted to jack squat.
Without further ado, I now present to you the results of Michael Mejido's "Get the Word Out!" MLS Advertising Campaign.

Dear Web site owner,
Congradulations! You and your website have been selected to take part in Michael Mejido's "Major League Soccer: Get the Word Out!" internet advertising campaign!
I am Michael Mejido, a huge fan of Major League Soccer - the largest and greatest and most stupendous professional soccer league in the United States of America. I like watching it on TV. I like watching it live! I like Major League Soccer. So you can understand my frustration at the fact that really NO ONE goes to Major League Soccer matches. The sad truth is that most people haven't even heard of our fine league. A short time back, this reality hit me, and immediately I thought to myself, "Why don't I do something about it?"
But, alas, what can one man do?
I'll tell you what one man can do. One man can ask others to help him in his quest.
I would like to ask you to put a small banner on your website. You can choose one (1) from the following links:

http://www.gti.net/mmejido/mls5.gif
http://www.gti.net/mmejido/mls6.gif
http://www.gti.net/mmejido/mls7.gif
I would ask that you link the ad to www.mlsnet.com, the official site of Major League Soccer. By doing this, the traffic from your site will see my ad, follow it to www.mlsnet.com, and have their curiousity aroused. With your help, and the help of countless other webmasters, we can get a true buzz going about Major League Soccer!
This internet ad campaign is only a small part of my grand one-man scheme that I am calling "Major League Soccer: Get the Word Out!" Along with these internet banners, I will also being going out in my community and taking pictures with the people, posting advertisements in community centers, and putting out flyers in my neighbors' mailboxes.
I am in no way associated with Major League Soccer. I am not getting paid for this. I am simply a fan that wishes to do his best to spread the word about something he thinks is super fantasic.
Thank You for your time! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at my e-mail address mmejido@gti.net

Subject: Hello!
Dear friend,
You're at home. You sit. And you're tired. You want something more. What is it you want? Enlightenment? Peace? Spiritual fulfilment?
No. You want Major League Soccer.
You want to enter a stadium full of screaming fans, chanting your favorite player's name. You want to sing the songs that inspire your team to win. You want to watch the greatest soccer that this country of ours has to offer.
You want Major League Soccer.
Not long ago, many wise men gathered together with a vision - a vision to create the greatest soccer league this land has ever seen. Together they pooled their talents, and before their eyes grew something so entirely beautiful, something so entirely original. Those great men that day created Major League Soccer, and from that day forth the United States of America has been spectator to some of the grandest feats in the history of the sport.
Its important to understand what is in play here - Major League Soccer is not simply a professional soccer league. It is a way of life. It is a creed. It is passion personified in the form of All-Star goalkeeper Tony Meola and goalscorer supreme Mamadou Diallo. It is the blood that pumps through countless fans, coaches, players, and assorted other personel that make it their lives. It is the tie that binds. It is the Way and the Word. It is perfection. It is soccer.
As you sit, and make your way through this life, you encroach upon mediocrity. You tire of the sameness, the drabness, the unexcitedness. Around you you see how things will one day end. You want to live... truely live. Can Major League Soccer help? Yes. Can Major League Soccer reivigorate your life? Yes. Can Major League Soccer inspire you to become a better human being? Yes. Can Major League Soccer eat away at your life's boredom, crystilize the darkness, and send your heart spiraling towards the Infinite? Yes. Major League Soccer can do all this and more. All Major League Soccer asks is that you pay a small fee to enter its stadia... to view its players... to experience all that is Major League Soccer.
Make a conscious decision. "I will become a better person". "I will activate my life". "I will watch Major League Soccer." There is so much that is now open to you. There is your life, right in front of you. Will you reach out to it? Will you grab hold? Will you attend a Major League Soccer match? I, and the rest America, hope you do.
Won't you join the cause? Won't you take part in making Major League Soccer the best it can be? Yes, you will. All you need to do is place one of the following ads on your website:
http://www.gti.net/mmejido/mls1.gif
http://www.gti.net/mmejido/mls2.gif
http://www.gti.net/mmejido/mls3.gif
http://www.gti.net/mmejido/mls4.gif
http://www.gti.net/mmejido/mls5.gif
http://www.gti.net/mmejido/mls6.gif
http://www.gti.net/mmejido/mls7.gif
By putting an ad on your site, and linking it to www.mlsnet.com, you help to spread the good word, and make yourself a better person in the process.
Major League Soccer fan, and your friend,
Michael Mejido
PS - I am in no way associated with Major League Soccer. They have not licensed me in any way to write you. I simply do this of my own accord to help spread the word.

Michael-
We've had some spam complaints recently that seem to be starting
from your account. As a reminder of GTI's AUP, sending of UCE (spam) is
prohibited.
It's not like we've had a ton of complaints, really just one so far. I'm
just making sure you're not blasting people with crap like so many other
people on the net. For the record, please don't send any more to
info@boylinks.net
Thanks...

So what have we learned from all this? We've learned that going out and attempting to advertise like the big boys do is tough. Very tough. People don't listen, or they just don't want to listen. Maybe it's just destined that MLS will only attract hispanics. Oh well... things could be worse.
Your friend,
Michael Mejido
