Several
years ago, in an interview for N.Y. Musician magazine, I was asked on what
people should look out for when purchasing a clavinet. I immediately
responded "Cracked Pickups!". Original Hohner Clavinet Pickups
are housed in plastic and sealed in an epoxy, this makes them A. Easily
breakable and B. Impossible to repair. Being that original replacements no
longer exist, many clavinets with cracked pickups were sadly discarded or
used for parts. We simply could not tolerate that, so we commissioned a
top U.S. pickup maker to manufacture new clavinet pickups - with a twist.
One of the biggest complaints of Clavinet owners is the NOISE and HUM the
instrument picks up, because it uses SINGLE COIL pickups and is mostly
unshielded. Fender Guitars share the same problem, and a solution was
invented many years ago - HumBUCKING pickups. "Humbuckers" as
they are called, are actually two single coils in one pickup. The two
coils cancel each others hum out, making the pickup quieter than
traditional "Single Coils". We decided to manufacture our

All keys on a Hohner Pianet have a "Sticky Hammer" at the end of them that is resting on top of a reed.
When a key is pressed, the "Sticky Hammer" lifts the reed just enough to release it into vibration. This
is the principle in which sound is generated in the Hohner Pianet. Original Hohner Pianet Pads were manufactured using a "Sticky Sandwich" of rubber, foam,
and an adhesive-coated leather pad. Unfortunately, these pads proved to be a reliability
nightmare as dirt, age and environmental factors destroy them. As original pads deteriorate,
