Smoke
detector inspection are required for residential resale.
Call the Fire House Monday through Thursday - 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to
schedule your inspection. The Smoke Detector Certification is valid
for sixty days. Call at least 2 weeks in advance of closing.
As Fire Prevention Week approaches, it is important that we look at our homes to make them safe from fire by "cleaning up" any fire hazards. Our homes have all the ingredients for fire: Fuel, Ignition Sources, and Air. Every year fires kill thousands, injure tens of thousands and damage or destroy one-half million homes.
Home fires can be prevented
and you can stop fires before they start if you:
Know and follow basic
safety rules.
Look for fire hazards
in your home.
Eliminate any hazards
you find as you go about your chores.
Some
basic Safety Rules to follow:
1. Don't
let rubbish pile up.
a) Dispose of rubbish regularly.
b) Don't throw ashes in the wastebasket.
c) Use metal containers.
d) Keep rubbish away from heat sources.
e) Properly dispose of unused solvents, paints and flammable liquids.
2. Store
things safely.
a) Keep anything that can burn away from heat.
b) Keep escape routes clear.
c) Keep matches and lighters away from children.
d) Store gasoline properly.
3. Have
a safety first attitude.
a) Be careful with smoking materials.
b) Maintain your appliances by fixing cords and cleaning lint from dryers.
c) Be careful when cooking, never leave cooking unattended and clean
grease from hoods and ducts.
d) Flammable liquids should never be used while smoking,
keep well away from heat sources, use outside.
4. Use
Heating and Electrical Equipment Safely.
a) Don't overload circuits.
b) Don't run electrical cords under rugs.
c) Make sure your home electrical wiring is up to code.
d) Have furnaces cleaned and inspected yearly.
e) Use a fire screen with your fireplace.
5. Stay
safe during special times.
a) During Halloween make sure costumes are made of fire-resistant
material; use flashlights not candles; and don't hang decorations on or
near light bulbs.
b) At Christmas time, water tree daily, check lights for hazards, turn
off lights
when you go out or to bed. Dispose of used wrapping paper a
and rubbish as soon as possible and choose lights with a UL seal.

Applications are being accepted for the Jr. Auxiliary.
Any town residents between the ages of sixteen (16) and eighteen (18) years old may apply for membership in the Jr. Auxiliary.
Applications may be obtained by calling (973) 377-3241 and requesting an application. All completed applications shall be mailed to the Florham Park Volunteer Fire Department, 315 Brooklake Road, Attention John Spiessbach.
Once the applications are reviewed the applicants will be called in for an interview.

Florham Park Volunteer's Accepting Applications
The Volunteer Fire
Department is accepting applications for membership in the volunteer Fire
Department. Anyone wishing an application, please contact Chief Young at
(937) 377-3241. Applicants must be 18 years old and out of high school
and must live in the Borough.
1. Make sure carbon monoxide alarm batteries are changed.
2. Don't run cars, snow blowers or leaf blowers in the garage. This will prevent carbon monoxide build up in the house.
3. Check all heating units before the cold months come to prevent false carbon oxide alarms.

help by keeping fire hydrants clear of snow in Winter Months. The Borough
has over 400 hydrants and your help is appreciated. Thank you!
