CATCH BASINS. Please do not put grass, branches, dog waste or garbage into catch basins. Putting these items into the catch basin promotes flooding of roadways during rains since the basin and drainage pipes become blocked with debris and cannot function properly, which also creates a possible environment for mosquito breeding.
HOT
LINE. The Department of Public Works has a special Hot Line telephone
number: 377-2307. Residents wishing to obtain current information
on programs run by the Department may call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
to receive a pre-recorded message.
BRUSH AND LIMB PICK-UP will occur only during the last full workweek of the month, through the week of September 25, 2000. Branches must be placed at the curbside (by Monday of the pickup week and on the homeowner's side of the curb, not in the roadway) with large ends facing the road.
LARGE BRANCH CHIPPING. Only branches between 1" to 6" in diameter, and a length greater than 4' will be chipped. There will be no collection of firewood, stumps, roots, trunks or limbs over 6" in diameter.
SMALL BRANCH PICK-UP (non-chippable). Branches, cuttings, etc., less than 1" in diameter must be tied in bundles no longer than 4' and placed at curbside.
GRASS AND GARDEN DEBRIS PICK-UP - will continue through the week of September 25, 2000. Only grass and garden debris placed in rigid containers (lids removed), with a capacity of 35 gallons or less, or with a weight not greater than 60 pounds will be picked up. Grass or debris put in the road, left loose or in plastic bags will not be picked up and could be subject to citation.
The Department of Public Works recommends "a cut it and leave it" policy for grass mowing. The Florham Park Compost Area is not permitted to mix grass with its compost; therefore, the grass must be transported to the Morris County Compost Facility. This process is costly due to the use of manpower and equipment, as well as the disposal fee charged by the County.
HEAVY ITEM PICK-UP. There will be two more pickups scheduled in 2000, the weeks of July 10th and September 11th. All residents must register the items to be picked up with the Public Works Office, no later than the Thursday preceding the scheduled collection, by telephoning 377-2250. There will be no exceptions. Items that will not be picked up include oil tanks, windows, sliding glass doors, mirrors, tires, construction or demolition debris, firewood, logs, stumps, quantities of fencing, railroad ties or small items that can be transported by automobile to the compactor. Appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers or any other items with a compressor known to contain Freon will not be picked up unless the appliance has a sticker affixed and documentation that the Freon has been legally removed. All items must be at curbside by 7:00 a.m. the Monday of each collection week. Once a street has been collected, we will not return to it.
COMPACTOR AREA. The Compactor is open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., through September 30th. Residents may dispose of toys, rugs, bric-a-brac and furniture. Appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers or any other items with a compressor known to contain Freon, will not be accepted unless the appliance has a sticker affixed and documentation that the Freon has been legally removed. Items such as tree wood, stumps, concrete, construction or demolition debris, tires, propane tanks or flammable and hazardous materials are not accepted. Residents must present their valid Driver's License, as proof of residency in Florham Park, in order to use the compactor. No commercial vehicles will be allowed to use the compactor.
